Breast Lift
Lift, Reshape, and Rejuvenate Your Breasts with Precision and Care
Dr. Rojas offers breast lift surgery to help women restore the appearance of their breasts and boost their confidence after pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, or the natural process of aging.
Life events and getting older can eliminate fullness and cause your breasts to hang down past their normal position, which can take a toll on your self-esteem. The good news is that a breast lift can restore your breasts to their perky, more youthful position with or without implants. Combining a breast lift and implants can lift your breasts to where they look natural on your chest and restore any lost volume to enhance their size and shape if desired. If you are unhappy with the way your breasts look, Dr. Rojas is an expert in breast lift and augmentation and will use his surgical skill and artistry to deliver the beautifully natural results you are looking for.
What Is a Breast Lift?
A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a cosmetic surgery that raises and reshapes breasts that have begun to sag or lose their youthful firmness. Often, life events like pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight loss, aging, genetics, or naturally larger breasts will cause your breasts to stretch and begin to sag and hang down. A breast lift is performed to remove and tighten up excess skin and reposition the breasts higher up on the chest where they naturally belong, but it does not reduce or enhance lost volume. Many women combine a breast lift with a breast augmentation or a breast reduction to get the results they want
Who Is a Candidate for a Breast Lift?
You are a suitable candidate for a breast lift if:
- You are in good health and do not have any medical conditions that would prevent you from going under general anesthesia or undergoing surgery.
- Your breasts are sagging and hanging lower than their natural position, or your nipples are pointing down or falling and are now positioned beyond the natural crease of your breasts.
- You have been close to your ideal weight for at least six months.
- Your breasts are not symmetrical, and one hangs down lower than the other.
- You do not smoke, drink heavily, or use illegal drugs.
- You understand what the surgery can and cannot do, so your expectations of the results you will achieve are realistic.
What Is Involved in a Breast Lift?
Breast lift surgery (mastopexy) is most often done using general anesthesia and may take 2 to 4 hours to complete depending on the extent of correction needed or if combining a lift with an augmentation or a reduction. Your breast lift will be customized to meet your needs and provide the correction and enhancements you desire, but the basic steps of a typical breast lift include:
Step 1
You are placed under general anesthesia so you are comfortably asleep during the surgery.
Step 2
Dr. Rojas will make the type of incisions that are needed to perform the type of breast lift that will provide the necessary correction and give you the results you desire. There are different incision placement techniques, and you and Dr. Rojas will choose the best one for you during your consultation. The different incision placement options include:
- A crescent lift works best for women with very mild sagging and uses one small incision along the top edge of the areola to give a gentle lift and leaves very little scarring and offers a quick recovery.
- A periareolar (donut) lift works well for mild to moderate sagging or when the size of the areola needs to be reduced. An incision is made that circles around the areola, and usually leaves a scar that is barely visible because it blends in with the natural border.
- A vertical (lollipop) lift is used for moderate sagging and reshaping and uses a combination of an incision around the areola and another that runs straight down from the bottom center of the areola to the breast crease. This results in a noticeable lift with less scarring than using a full anchor technique.
- An anchor (inverted-T) lift is the best choice for women who are dealing with severe sagging or a lot of extra skin. The surgeon makes three incisions, including one around the areola, one that runs down vertically just like the lollipop technique, and then another that runs along the breast crease underneath. This is the technique used when there is a good bit of lift and correction needed and delivers very good results. Dr. Rojas will do as much as possible to mitigate scarring, but this incision technique can leave the most visible scarring.
Step 3
Once your incisions have been created, Dr. Rojas will eliminate any loose, excess skin, and the remaining skin will be tightened up and sutured in place.
Step 4
If needed, the size of your areolas can be reduced to fit your new breast size and shape, and your nipples can be relocated to a more natural-looking position.
Step 5
If part of your treatment plan includes implants, they would be added during this step to restore or add additional volume to your breasts.
Step 6
Dr. Rojas will lift and secure your breasts to their natural, higher position and close the incisions as delicately as possible to mitigate scarring.
Step 7
You will spend a few hours in a special recovery area so we can ensure you come out of the anesthesia with no issues, and then you will be discharged to go home to recover.
Benefits
Recovery
Recovering from breast lift surgery is different for each person and will depend upon how involved your surgery was, if you combined procedures, and how closely you follow your aftercare instructions. Most patients need a little help at home for the first few days and normally need to take at least a week off of work.
Dr. Rojas will give you detailed instructions on how to care for your incisions and any drains (if applicable), how to wear your compression bra correctly, when you can safely lift items that are heavier than a gallon of milk, and when you can return to your normal activities. Most patients begin to feel back to normal around six weeks after their surgery, but you should be aware that you may have swelling that lasts for several months.
Results
If you follow your aftercare directions carefully and practice lifestyle choices to maintain a healthy weight, your breast lift result can last for many years. Eating a healthy diet, avoiding sun exposure, staying properly hydrated, and getting enough sleep will help your skin stay healthy and prolong the results of your breast lift.
If you are planning on becoming pregnant or breastfeeding in the future, Dr. Rojas recommends waiting to undergo a breast lift until after you are finished having children because these life events can change the results of your breast lift.
How Much Does a Breast Lift Cost?
The cost of your breast lift surgery will depend on your specific circumstances and the results you are looking to achieve. The total cost of your surgery can vary depending on the extent of correction you need and if you are adding breast implants or a breast reduction to your breast lift. We will discuss your breast lift cost in detail during your personal consultation, and we will also share information about our flexible financing options.
Dr. Rojas has been helping women feel confident in their appearance for several decades and is one of the best breast lift surgeons in the United States today.
