Breast Augmentation
Precision and Artistry to Restore or Enhance Your Natural Shape and Boost Confidence
Some women have always wanted fuller or more aesthetically pleasing breasts, and others experience undesirable changes in the appearance of their breasts after pregnancy, weight loss, or just as they get older. Dr. Rojas offers breast augmentation using precision and artistry to restore or create the breasts that these women have always desired and to help them to feel more confident.
What Is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation is a type of cosmetic surgery that enhances the breasts and makes them look fuller and more balanced. During the operation, a choice of either silicone or saline implants are placed under the breast tissue or the chest muscle to change the size, shape, and appearance of the breasts.
Some women choose to undergo breast augmentation to better suit their body proportions, restore volume that was lost due to pregnancy or weight fluctuations, or because they desire to have fuller or larger breasts to boost their self-confidence. Sometimes a breast augmentation is done for reconstructive purposes to restore a natural-looking appearance after a mastectomy or lumpectomy.
Who Is a Candidate?
The best candidates for a breast augmentation are in good health, do not smoke or use illegal drugs, and have maintained a stable weight for six months to a year and other criteria, including:
- Women who are at least 18 years old for saline implants and 22 years old for silicone implants.
- Women who do not have any serious medical problems.
- Women who are unhappy with their breasts because they are sagging, flat, uneven, or have lost shape, fullness, or cleavage.
- Women who do not smoke, drink heavily, or use illegal drugs.
- Women who have realistic goals for their results and understand the possible risks of the surgery.
- Women who desire to enhance the appearance of their breasts to boost their own confidence and happiness and not because others are pressuring them.
What Is Involved In A Breast Augmentation?
Your breast augmentation will be customized to fit your needs and circumstances and to deliver the results you desire, but the basic steps of a breast augmentation include:
Step 1
You will be sedated with general anesthesia to ensure you are pain-free and comfortable during your surgery.
Step 2
The surgeon will make the type of incisions that follow the plan you worked together to create beforehand. The location, pattern, and length of your incisions will depend on your specific augmentation needs and are done with reducing any visible scarring in mind.
Step 3
The surgeon will place the breast implant either under your pectoral muscles or directly behind the breast tissue, which would be over your pectoral muscle. The placement of the implant will depend on the type of implant, its size, your specific body type, and the selections you made with the surgeon during your personal consultation.
Step 4
Next, your incisions will be closed using layered sutures, surgical tape, or surgical glue to ensure they are done precisely and securely. This will help prevent your incisions from opening during your recovery and help them heal properly so you have the least amount of scarring possible.
Step 5
When your surgery is complete, you are taken to a recovery area where you will remain for a few hours until you are discharged to go home and begin your recovery process.
Benefits
Recovery
Breast augmentation is done as an outpatient, so you do not need to spend any time in the hospital and will be able to go home the same day. You will not be able to drive yourself home, and you will need someone to stay with you for the better part of your surgery day to provide you with some help. Many women are able to return to work after about 5 days, but it will depend on your particular surgery and the physical demands of your job.
It normally takes anywhere from four to six weeks to fully recover from breast augmentation surgery and may take a bit longer if your implants are placed below your pectoral muscles. Your surgeon will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions that you need to follow closely to make sure your recovery and healing process go as smoothly as possible.
Results
It is normal after a breast augmentation for swelling to last for several weeks, and it can take several months to see your final results after getting breast implants. Immediately after your augmentation, your breasts will look and feel a bit high on your chest, which is caused by swelling or because your implants were placed under the muscle. It will take time, but they will gradually settle into a position that looks and feels more natural.
Most women can see very close to their final results after about four months, but your surgeon can give you a more accurate timeline based on your specific implant type, size, placement, and individual circumstances. Dr. Rojas aims to deliver final results that fulfill your desires and meet the aesthetic goals discussed during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Breast Augmentation Cost?
The cost of your breast augmentation will depend on your personal circumstances and the results you wish to attain. The cost for breast augmentations varies depending on the type of implants used, the placement technique, the facility and surgeon chosen, and whether you are combining other procedures like a breast lift.
You will be provided with a detailed breakdown of what your specific breast augmentation surgery will cost during your personal consultation so you can plan accordingly. All surgical procedures come with possible risks or complications, and this is true after undergoing breast augmentation. In addition to the usual routine risks associated with using general anesthesia, some other risks include:
- Swelling and bruising
- Soreness and discomfort for a few days following your surgery that can be managed with prescribed pain medication or over-the-counter pain relievers.
- Temporary changes or numbness around the breasts or nipples can occur.
- You may see some minor differences between the size or shape of each breast immediately after your surgery, but this usually normalizes and balances out as you heal.
- The surgeon will do all he can to place your incisions in less visible areas, but some scarring is inevitable, but it will gradually fade and become less noticeable.
- In rare cases, your implants might migrate outside of where they are supposed to be, and you may need to undergo surgery to correct the placement.
- Scar tissue can form around the implant (capsular contracture) as you heal and cause your breasts to feel hard or look misshapen.
- A rare risk of developing an incision infection or an infection around your implants.
